- LAW
The first five books of the Bible--Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy--are known as the Pentateuch. These books lay the foundation of the Bible, including how God created the world, the fall of man, the formation of God's people, Israel, and the sacrificial system put in place to offer forgiveness for the Israelites' sin. These books include portions of storytelling, as well as the specific laws Israel had to obey.
As you read through these books, let them inform your understanding of God as a Creator, Savior, and Protector of His people.
- HISTORICAL
Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther are all history books in the Old Testament. These accounts record the progression of Israel's leadership from humble servants, judges, and eventually kings. Ultimately, Israel's rejection as God as king would foreshadow the human heart willing to disobey and sin before a holy God.
As you read these stories, you will see the contrast between disobedience and obedience, holiness and sinfulness, righteousness and unrighteousness. Let these narratives remind you of man's total depravity; we are in desperate need of a Savior from our sin and ourselves.
- WISDOM
Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes are called wisdom books, for they help us wisely seek the Lord regardless of the situation. Written by generations of godly men, the wisdom outlined in these books is not a sure-fire promise but rather general principles to guide us in our faith. Throughout these books, a thread of wise teachings points us to rely on the Lord in all we do.
- POETRY
Smack dab in the middle of the Bible, the book of Psalms and Song of Solomon poetically describe the beauty and goodness of God. Various writers used different literary techniques to express their thoughts. From repeating similar sentiments restated in different ways to comparing and contrasting ideas for clarity, both Psalms and Song of Solomon point to the power, purpose, and pleasure of the Lord and His love!
(While these two books are primarily poetic, it's important to note that poetry is present throughout other portions of the Old Testament, primarily in the prophetic books.)
- PROPHECY
Prophetic books focus on the specific visions, messages, and foretelling of future events from various prophets. These prophecies ranged from calling out kingdoms, foreshadowing Christ's coming, and directed towards God's people. While there are some examples of prophets sprinkled throughout genres (for example, Moses, Elijah, Elisha, and John the Baptist), most prophets have a book of the Bible dedicated to them.
Typically, prophetic books fit into one of two categories: major or minor. This title has nothing to do with the prophet's importance or message. Instead, it simply addresses the length of their writing! Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel make up the major prophets. Hosea through Malachi are the minor prophets.
- Gospel
The first four books of the New Testament--Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John--are the Gospel accounts of Christ's birth, life, death, and resurrection. While some of these Gospels overlap stories, each writer has a unique audience and attention to the details of Jesus.
Reading through the Gospels will give you a first-hand account of who Jesus is, was, and will always be! Fall in love with your Savior by reading through one of these detailed reports of Christ.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested.

[Hebrews 4:11-12]
