We ended yesterday with the idea that the more you know God’s Word, the more you will love God’s Word! And the more you love God’s Word, the more you will want to follow God’s Word! It’s true that as a follower of Jesus, you and I don’t have to earn our salvation through our obedience to God.
However, we should want to honor God with our obedience. Today, we’ll see why following God’s Word is the most crucial piece of the puzzle.
Read James 1:22-25.
What is the difference between a doer of the word and a hearer only?
Why does James say that someone who only listens to God’s Word is deceived?
Re-read James 1:23-24.
When you look at your natural face, without any makeup on, what things do you notice?
If you’re like me, I usually notice the flaws, the blemishes, and the things that I wish were a little different. And then what do I often do about that? I either put medicine on the blemishes to help them heal or put on makeup to enhance my features.
How is someone who hears the Word of God but does nothing about it, similar to a person who looks at herself in a mirror and walks away, forgetting what she looks like?
Now read James 1:25.
On a scale of 1-10, how often do you read God’s Word and act on what it says?
Never Often Always

Scripture is so perfect, so good, so true that usually when we read it, we feel a sense of conviction. Conviction is the realization that you are falling out of line with God’s way. Conviction is a good thing because it helps us see where we are flawed, what’s not quite right, and shows us what we need to change.
List a few of the things you realize need to change through reading the Bible?
What is the benefit of allowing God’s Word to change you?
Let’s end our time today by reading John 14:21.
This is Jesus speaking! Who is the person who knows and follows God’s commands?
This is a verse I would encourage you to memorize! When we know God’s Word and when we do what it says, James tells us we will be blessed. Jesus tells us how: God will show Himself to us! That gift is more than we could ever dream of!
Do you love God enough to continue learning and following His Word?
Ask God to show you the areas of your life that need some adjusting. Ask Him to give you the strength and desire to make those changes so that you can honor Him with your life. Make a commitment to Him to read and act on His Word. Tell Him you are thankful for the blessing He promises to give you in return.
