On Monday, we discovered that’s God Word is faithful! Yesterday, we learned that it’s important to know the Bible so that we can overcome the sin that tempts us. Today’s key verse helps us understand how we can use Scripture in the midst of the battles we face.

Read Ephesians 6:10-17.

Why must we put on the armor of God?

Re-read Ephesians 6:12.

The battles you and I face are not really against difficult people or difficult situations, but against the Enemy on a spiritual level. What is your reaction to this truth?

What spiritual struggles are you wrestling with today?

Connect the following pieces of armor to the virtue it is associated with:

                 Belt                                                 Gospel of Peace

Breastplate                                      Faith

Shoes                                              Truth

         Shield                                           Word of God

             Helmet                                           Righteousness

     Sword                                            Salvation

Circle the item above that is a weapon used in offense.

What’s the difference between a weapon of offense like the sword and the weapon of defense like the shield?

The shield protects. In battle, the shield guards the person behind it while the sword attacks the enemy.

So how does this parallel on a spiritual level?  Flip over to Matthew chapter 4 and read verses 1-11.

Who tempted Jesus?

How did Jesus respond to each temptation?

Who won the battle?

Through reading this account of Satan tempting Jesus, we are reminded that we are not alone in the battles we face. I am certainly challenged when we discover the only way the Enemy can be defeated—through Scripture! Jesus quoted God’s Word to Satan and it was powerful enough that the Enemy left and our Savior won the battle!

Why is God’s Word a weapon of offense?

How can you use God’s Word when you face temptations?

Do you believe it will make a difference? Why or why not?

You are already taking great strides to growing in your understanding of God’s Word just by picking up this lesson! Keep reading and memorizing God’s Word so that your sword is sharp and ready to be used when it’s time to attack against the schemes of the devil.

Pray specifically over the struggles and temptations you are facing. Ask God to give you a verse that you can quote when you enter into the battle. Write that verse here:
